Sony Walkman RIP 27.10.10

I bought my first Walkman in 1983. It had twin headphone points so you and your partner could share the same song lying on the beach or wherever. It's something even Apple has overlooked with the Nano. Police and David Bowie were amongst the first tapes I would play and play again. Having a Walkman was being pre-cool.

Akai Morita, then the CEO of Sony, could not win board approval for his invention and so bet his own salary and position that it would be successful. he just won but what it did was turn Sony into eventually a giant in the IT space. Like all giants it has taken its eye off the ball especially with PS2 and PS3 but then it is now an entertainment giant too and is more an American company than a Japanese one.
