I have been to most sporting occasions in the UK and quite a few elsewhere - baseball  and US Football, rugby world cup finals in Oz and France and SA, F1 in Hungary, the soccer world cup in Japan and the America's Cup in Fremantle.

I am taken by the knowledge of the crowds at The Open, Wimbledon, Lord's and The Oval, Twickenham, Aintree, the Tour de France, Crystal Palace (track and field), Wembley (rugby league) and F1.

I doubt if another nation has such a band of loyal and knowledgeable fans. And we were out in force yesterday in Paris, at Lytham and at The Oval yesterday.
