France 26-24 England at Stade Francaise on 1st February 2014
I went by Eurostar on Friday to Paris to watch England in the opening match of the 6 Nations tournament.
On Friday evening, our Ambassador, having been in England with the PM and President Hollande flew back just in time to welcome us for drinks at 6pm. The "we" being The RFU Council and the respective Parliamentary XVs who have their own version of the six nations.
On Saturday at 6pm the stadium was rocking to the music and awaiting for the game. And what a game which frankly England threw away alongside one howler by the referee at the end of the first half when he failed to come back for a penalty.
True France scored right at the close under the posts to take the game 26-24 when England had all but sowed it up after a disastrous start. On this form the pack isn't quite as good as it thought it was and the backs especially at fly half failed to make progress and a rethink will be needed.
All in all though a goodly day and a great weekend.
