I sent this letter into The Guardian and hope it will be published tomorrow:
Dear Sir
In my advanced years I sometimes fail to see the train for the lines.
If HS2 is so important to connect Manchester, Leeds and Birmingham might it not
be more appropriate to link these cities first. London doesn't need more trains
or lines. The original HS2 was to be centred on linking to a hub at Heathrow
which still makes more sense.
