Last night, I went to see Henrik Ibsen's Ghosts at the Almeida and tonight I will be watching the opening of the third series of Borgen. Having recently had four days in Copenhagen, I am hooked on all things Danish!
Ghosts is a dark play about late 19th century Lutheran morals centred around an all too familiar dysfunctional but reasonably wealthy family. It is a very clever construct with the interweaving of the various relationships laid bare. I suspect it caused quite a storm when it opened in 1881.
Richard Eyre adapted and directed. The set was brilliant, the costumes were excellent and the acting was compelling. It took me out of myself for a couple of hours.
